Wing Transport Squadron 17 provided motor transport support to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and its subordinate units. The squadron's Marines operated and maintained the tactical vehicles, heavy equipment, and transportation assets needed to move aviation supplies, personnel, ordnance, and equipment between air stations and deployed locations. Their ability to rapidly establish and sustain ground logistics lines was essential to Marine aviation's expeditionary character.
