VRC-50 Foo Dogs Cubi DET Patch — Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 50 Cubi Point Detachment Embroidered Patch
Foo Dogs at Cubi — COD in the Western Pacific.
Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 50 (VRC-50) "Foo Dogs" Cubi Detachment operated from Naval Air Station Cubi Point in the Philippines, providing Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) services to aircraft carriers operating in the Western Pacific. Cubi Point was one of the U.S. Navy's premier overseas bases, and VRC-50's detachment there was essential to keeping the Seventh Fleet's carriers supplied with personnel, mail, and critical spare parts.
VRC-50 flew the C-2A Greyhound on COD missions — the unique and demanding task of landing a cargo aircraft on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier at sea. The Cubi DET supported carrier operations throughout the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, ferrying VIPs, replacement aircrew, urgent repair parts, and tons of mail between shore bases and carriers operating hundreds of miles offshore. Cubi Point's strategic location in Subic Bay made it the perfect logistics hub for Pacific Fleet operations, and VRC-50's Foo Dogs were the delivery service that connected shore-based supply chains to ships at sea. The closure of Cubi Point in 1992 ended an era of American naval presence in the Philippines.
This patch commemorates VRC-50's legendary Cubi Point detachment.
Perfect For: VRC-50 Foo Dogs veterans, Cubi Point NAS alumni, C-2A Greyhound COD crews, and Western Pacific deployment collectors.
