VMO-3 was the Marine observation squadron that eventually redesignated into HMLA-367 "Scarface," one of the Marine Corps' premier light attack helicopter squadrons. This throwback design preserves the VMO-3 identity and connects it to the Scarface lineage, tracing the squadron's evolution from observation aircraft to the AH-1 Cobra and UH-1 Huey gunship and utility mission. VMO-3 flew in Vietnam, providing observation and armed helicopter support before the Marine Corps reorganized its observation squadrons into the HMLA structure.
