V-22 Osprey San Diego Tilt Patch
MV-22B Osprey — San Diego Tiltrotor Operations
This patch celebrates the MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor community operating out of the San Diego, California, area — home to MCAS Miramar, one of the Marine Corps' premier aviation installations and a major hub for Osprey operations on the West Coast. The V-22 Osprey is a joint-service, multi-mission tiltrotor aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff and landing capability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a turboprop airplane, achieved through its distinctive rotating nacelles.
The MV-22B entered operational service with the Marine Corps in 2007, replacing the venerable CH-46E Sea Knight after decades of development and testing. The aircraft can carry 24 combat-equipped Marines at speeds up to 280 knots over a combat radius exceeding 390 nautical miles — more than double the speed and five times the range of the helicopter it replaced. Marine Medium Tiltrotor squadrons based at Miramar, including VMM-166 "SeaElk," operate the MV-22B in support of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and I Marine Expeditionary Force.
The "SD Tilt" identity reflects the camaraderie and pride of the San Diego-based tiltrotor community, where Marines and maintainers push the boundaries of aviation technology in support of expeditionary operations worldwide. From humanitarian assistance to combat assault transport, the Osprey has proven itself across every theater of operations.
Perfect For: MV-22 Osprey pilots and crew, VMM squadron members, MCAS Miramar personnel, San Diego-based tiltrotor Marines, 3rd MAW aviators, and tiltrotor aviation enthusiasts.
A tribute to the San Diego tiltrotor community — flying the revolutionary Osprey from Miramar to the far corners of the globe.
