VMM-163 Evil Monkey Patch — Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 Embroidered Patch

The Evil Eyes take on a mischievous new look—VMM-163's Evil Monkey morale patch, capturing the irreverent spirit of the Ridge Runners and their legendary reputation in Marine tiltrotor aviation.

Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (VMM-163), the "Ridge Runners," is a storied Marine Corps tiltrotor squadron assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. The squadron was originally activated on 15 February 1966 as Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163 (HMM-163) and earned the nickname "Evil Eyes" during its distinguished service in the Vietnam War, where the squadron flew the CH-46 Sea Knight on countless assault transport, resupply, and medical evacuation missions throughout I Corps Tactical Zone.

The Ridge Runners deployed to Vietnam multiple times, operating from Marble Mountain Air Facility, Phu Bai, and other forward bases. The squadron's CH-46 crews flew into some of the most heavily contested landing zones in the war, inserting Marines and extracting wounded under intense enemy fire. Following Vietnam, HMM-163 continued to deploy throughout the Pacific, participated in humanitarian assistance operations, and served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The squadron transitioned from the CH-46E Sea Knight to the MV-22B Osprey, redesignating as VMM-163, and has since deployed as part of Marine Expeditionary Unit Aviation Combat Elements across the Western Pacific and Middle East.

This Evil Monkey morale patch puts a playful twist on the squadron's "Evil Eyes" heritage, combining the Ridge Runners' aggressive tactical identity with the irreverent humor that defines military aviation culture. Morale patches like these are cherished within the squadron community, worn on flight suits, helmet bags, and deployment gear as expressions of unit pride and camaraderie that go beyond the official squadron insignia.

Perfect For: VMM-163 Ridge Runners and Evil Eyes members and veterans, HMM-163 alumni, MV-22 Osprey community members, MAG-16 and 3rd MAW personnel, MCAS Miramar Marines, and military morale patch collectors.

The Evil Eyes of VMM-163—riding the ridges from Vietnam to the Indo-Pacific, always with a mischievous edge and a warrior's heart.
