VMGR-234 "Bears" was a Marine Corps Reserve aerial refueler transport squadron operating the KC-130 Hercules under the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. The Bears provided Reserve tanker and transport capability, maintaining trained crews who could augment the active duty VMGR force during mobilization. Reserve VMGR squadrons were critical force multipliers during sustained operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, providing additional aerial refueling sorties and cargo runs that exceeded the active duty force's capacity.
