Officially Licensed USMC VMFP-3 Eyes of the Corps Patch — Marine Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron 3 Embroidered Patch
Eyes of the Corps — the Marine Corps' only dedicated tactical reconnaissance squadron.
VMFP-3 "Eyes of the Corps" was the Marine Corps' only dedicated tactical reconnaissance squadron, operating the RF-4B Phantom from MCAS El Toro, California. The RF-4B was a specialized photo-reconnaissance variant of the F-4 Phantom II, stripped of weapons but loaded with cameras and sensor equipment capable of gathering critical intelligence imagery at supersonic speeds. VMFP-3 was unique in all of Marine aviation — the only squadron tasked exclusively with tactical aerial reconnaissance. The Eyes of the Corps flew unarmed into hostile airspace, relying on speed and skill to survive while photographing enemy positions. VMFP-3 served in Vietnam and continued through the Cold War before deactivation in 1990.
