VMFAT-201 "Golden Hawks" was a Marine Fighter Attack Training squadron responsible for training newly winged Marine aviators in the tactical employment of the F/A-18 Hornet. The Fleet Replacement Squadron mission is one of the most critical in Marine aviation — taking pilots fresh from the training command and transforming them into combat-ready fighter attack aviators. VMFAT-201 taught the art of air combat maneuvering, weapons delivery, carrier landing procedures, and tactical formation flying. Every Marine Hornet pilot who flew combat missions over Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other theater owed their tactical foundation to training squadrons like VMFAT-201.
