**Officially Licensed USMC VMFA(AW)-242 Bats Sticker — Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
The Bats — night predators of Marine tactical aviation. VMFA(AW)-242 carried the torch from all-weather Intruder attack to the multi-role Hornet era.
VMFA(AW)-242, the "Bats," earned their nickname from their mastery of night and all-weather operations. Originally established during WWII, the squadron evolved through multiple redesignations before becoming one of the Marine Corps' all-weather attack squadrons flying the A-6 Intruder from MCAS El Toro, California, under MAG-11 and 3rd MAW. The Intruder's dual-seat configuration — pilot and bombardier/navigator — gave the Bats the ability to find and destroy targets in total darkness and zero-visibility weather. Redesignated VMFA(AW)-242 with the transition to the F/A-18D Hornet, the squadron continued its all-weather strike mission with upgraded FLIR pods, GPS-guided munitions, and advanced radar, deploying throughout the Western Pacific and Middle East.
