VMFA(AW)-224 "Bengals" is a Marine all-weather fighter attack squadron based at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina, operating the F/A-18D Hornet. The Bengals trace their lineage back to World War II and have maintained a continuous tradition of excellence in Marine tactical aviation. The two-seat F/A-18D gives VMFA(AW)-224 unique capabilities in the all-weather and night attack mission, with the weapons system officer managing sensors and targeting while the pilot focuses on flying and weapons delivery. The Bengals have deployed extensively to the Western Pacific, the Middle East, and Afghanistan in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
