VMFA-112 "Cowboys" is a Marine Reserve fighter attack squadron with a heritage stretching back to World War II. The Cowboys became closely associated with the F-4 Phantom II during the Cold War era, flying the legendary twin-engine fighter-interceptor from NAS Dallas and later NAS Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base. As a Reserve squadron, VMFA-112 maintained combat readiness while drawing from experienced aviators who held civilian careers alongside their military commitments. The Cowboys deployed for exercises and operational commitments, demonstrating that Reserve squadrons could match active-duty performance.
