VMF(AW)-323 "Death Rattlers" was the all-weather fighter designation that preceded today's VMFA-323 "Death Rattlers," one of the most recognized names in Marine fighter aviation. The Death Rattlers have carried their venomous identity through every generation of Marine fighters — from propeller-driven night fighters through the F-4 Phantom II, F/A-18 Hornet, and eventually the F-35C Lightning II. VMF(AW)-323 provided the all-weather and night fighter capability during the Korean War era.
