VMF(AW)-115 "Able Eagles" was the all-weather fighter squadron designation that preceded today's VMFA-115 "Silver Eagles." The Able Eagles operated radar-equipped fighters for night and all-weather interception during the Cold War era, when the threat of Soviet air attack made around-the-clock fighter coverage essential. The squadron's lineage carried forward through multiple redesignations as the Marine Corps evolved its fighter force.
