**Officially Licensed USMC VMCJ-2 Playboys Sticker — Marine Composite Reconnaissance Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
The Playboys — VMCJ-2 tracked the Soviet buildup in Cuba before Kennedy even knew about it. The first Marine unit awarded a Navy Unit Commendation in peacetime.
VMCJ-2 was commissioned on December 12, 1955, at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, merging VMJ-2 and VMC-2 to consolidate 2nd MAW's photo reconnaissance and electronic warfare capabilities. Famous for its flop-eared Playboy Bunny logo, the squadron began flying electronic intelligence missions around Cuba in 1960, tracking the Soviet military buildup with F3D-2Q Skyknights and RF-8A Crusaders. VMCJ-2 became the first Marine unit awarded a Navy Unit Commendation in peacetime for its electronic and photo reconnaissance during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The squadron trained replacement aircrews for VMCJ-1's Vietnam deployments and flew RF-4Bs and EA-6As until its decommissioning on August 1, 1975, when its assets formed VMAQ-2 under the last CO, who became the first CO of the successor squadron.
