VMA(AW)-121 "Green Knights" carried the all-weather attack designation when the squadron operated the A-6E Intruder, the Marine Corps' premier all-weather, deep-strike attack aircraft. The A-6E Intruder could deliver ordnance in weather conditions and at night when other attack aircraft were grounded, giving Marine commanders a true around-the-clock strike capability. VMA(AW)-121 flew the Intruder in combat during Operation Desert Storm, delivering precision strikes against Iraqi targets in weather that kept other aircraft on the ground.
