VMA-311 "Tomcats" was a Marine attack squadron that operated the AV-8B Harrier II from MCAS Yuma, Arizona, under MAG-13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Tomcats deployed extensively to Iraq and Afghanistan, flying the Harrier in close air support, interdiction, and armed reconnaissance missions. VMA-311 was among the last Harrier squadrons before the Marine Corps' transition to the F-35B Lightning II. The Tomcats' lineage stretches back to World War II, where the squadron flew combat missions in the Pacific.
