VMA-242 "Slashers" was a Marine attack squadron whose Latin motto "Promptus Vindicare" translates to "Swift Victory." The Slashers' combat lineage connects to VMSB-242, which flew SBD Dauntless dive bombers in World War II. The squadron participated in some of the most critical battles of the Pacific War, including the campaigns in the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. The Slashers carried their dive bombing and attack heritage into the jet age.
