VMA-224 "Bengals" was a Marine attack squadron that traces its lineage to VMF-224, the Marine fighter squadron that fought alongside VMF-223 at Guadalcanal in 1942. VMF-224 produced Major Robert E. Galer, who shot down 11 Japanese aircraft over Guadalcanal and received the Medal of Honor. The Bengals carried this distinguished WWII combat heritage forward through the attack era.
