Officially Licensed USMC VMA-211 Wake Island Avengers Patch — Marine Attack Squadron Embroidered Patch

The Wake Island Avengers — VMA-211's legacy from one of the most heroic last stands in American military history.

VMA-211 "Wake Island Avengers" carries the most storied legacy in Marine Corps aviation. The original VMF-211 was the Marine fighter squadron defending Wake Island when the Japanese attacked on December 8, 1941. The squadron's pilots flew F4F-3 Wildcats against overwhelming Japanese naval and air forces, sinking the destroyer Kisaragi — the first enemy warship sunk by U.S. aircraft in WWII. When their aircraft were destroyed, the pilots fought as infantry alongside the Wake Island garrison until the island fell on December 23, 1941. The survivors endured years of brutal captivity. The squadron was reconstituted as the "Wake Island Avengers" to honor their sacrifice.

Perfect For:
VMA-211 Wake Island Avengers Marines past and present, Wake Island defense history enthusiasts, WWII Marine aviation historians, and USMC legendary squadron patch collectors.

Wake Island Avengers. Never forget. December 1941.
