The 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment (3-4 CAV) is a United States Army armored cavalry squadron with roots tracing back to the original 4th Cavalry Regiment, one of the oldest cavalry formations in the U.S. Army. Known as the "Bloodknights," 3-4 CAV has served in some of the most significant operations in modern military history, carrying forward a legacy that began on the western frontier in the 19th century.
The 4th Cavalry Regiment's lineage stretches back to 1855, and its troopers have fought in every major American conflict since the Civil War. 3rd Squadron carries forward this distinguished heritage as a modern combined arms formation equipped with Bradley Fighting Vehicles, M1 Abrams tanks, and reconnaissance assets. The squadron conducts security operations, reconnaissance, and offensive combat operations as part of its parent brigade combat team. From the deserts of Iraq to the training areas of major exercises, 3-4 CAV's Bloodknights maintain the aggressive, forward-leaning posture that cavalry units have embodied since the days of horse-mounted charges.
