**Officially Licensed US Navy Official VF-24 Checkertails Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**

VF-24 Fighting Renegades — one of the Navy's first "Ace" squadrons in Vietnam, and later the owners of a safety record no other Tomcat unit could touch. MiG killers who also happened to be perfectionists.

VF-24 was originally established as VF-211 in June 1955 at NAS Moffett Field, flying the FJ-3 Fury, and was redesignated VF-24 on 9 March 1959. During the Vietnam War, the squadron deployed aboard USS Bon Homme Richard and USS Hancock flying F-8 Crusaders, scoring their first MiG kills on 19 May 1967 with AIM-9 Sidewinders. Additional MiG kills with 20mm guns and Sidewinders followed, earning VF-24 "Ace" squadron status. After their last F-8 cruise in 1975, the squadron transitioned to the F-14A Tomcat in December 1975, initially as the "Red Checkertails" before adopting the "Fighting Renegades" name in the mid-1980s. VF-24 won the Mutha Trophy as the best Pacific Fleet fighter squadron in 1977, set a record with three consecutive FOD-free cruises, and achieved 97 consecutive days of Full Mission Capable readiness — unmatched by any other F-14 unit. Paired with VF-211 in CVW-9, the squadron deployed aboard USS Constellation, USS Kitty Hawk, and USS Nimitz. VF-24 supported Operation Provide Comfort over Iraq in 1991 and was disestablished on 31 August 1996.
