**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-211 Checkmates Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-211 Fighting Checkmates — eight confirmed MiG kills in the F-8 Crusader over Vietnam and a mascot named Brutus who only appears on the jet when the squadron spends Christmas away from home. That's a tradition worth honoring.
The Fighting Checkmates trace their lineage to Bombing Squadron VB-74, established on May 1, 1945, flying SBW-4E Helldivers. The squadron cycled through AD Skyraiders, F4U Corsairs, F9F Panthers, FJ Furies, F3H Demons, and F-11 Tigers before settling into a legendary 16-year run with the F-8 Crusader. In 1959, VF-24 and VF-211 swapped air wings and designations, creating the present-day Fighting Checkmates. Based at NAS Miramar for 35 years, VF-211 made eight deployments during the Vietnam War, earning the reputation as "The MiG Killers" with eight confirmed aerial victories in the Crusader. The squadron transitioned to the F-14A Tomcat in 1975 and later the F-14A+, supporting Operations Desert Storm and Southern Watch. VF-211 flew 1,250 combat sorties and dropped 100,000 lbs of ordnance during Operation Enduring Freedom before redesignating as VFA-211 in 2004, now flying F/A-18E Super Hornets from NAS Oceana.
