**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-121 Pacemakers Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-121 Pacemakers — the squadron that literally invented TOPGUN. Before it became a movie, it was a classified program run out of this unit's spaces at NAS Miramar.
VF-121 was originally established as Naval Air Reserve Fighter Squadron VF-781 on 1 July 1946 at NAS Los Alamitos, California. Called to active duty in July 1950, the Pacemakers flew F9F-2B Panthers from USS Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War, followed by combat cruises aboard USS Oriskany. On 18 November 1952, VF-781 pilots scored MiG-15 kills in aerial combat over Korea. Redesignated VF-121 on 4 February 1953, the squadron transitioned through F9F Cougars and FJ-3 Furys before becoming a Fleet Replacement Squadron on 11 April 1958 at NAS Miramar. VF-121 received the West Coast's first F-4B Phantoms in 1961, and a VF-121 crew won the Bendix Trophy transcontinental race during Project LANA that same year. Most critically, in March 1969, the original Navy Fighter Weapons School — TOPGUN — was established under VF-121's administrative control. The squadron trained every Pacific Fleet F-4 Phantom crew until its disestablishment on 30 September 1980.
