**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-11 VFA-11 Red Rippers Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-11 Red Rippers — their insignia features a boar's head from a Gordon's Gin bottle, a string of sausages, and a lightning bolt. The whole design was meant to be a drinking toast. That tells you everything you need to know about this squadron.
The Red Rippers trace their heritage to VF-5, established on 1 February 1927 at Hampton Roads, Virginia — making them one of the Navy's oldest continuously active fighter squadrons. Under various designations including VF-4 and VF-41, the squadron flew F4F Wildcats in the Allied invasion of North Africa in 1943, downing 16 enemy aircraft, then conducted the first air strikes against German forces in Norway. Transferred to the Pacific, the Red Rippers flew F6F Hellcats from USS Bunker Hill and USS Essex, participating in the Battle of Okinawa and strikes against Tokyo. The current squadron was established as VF-43 on 1 September 1950 and redesignated VF-11 in February 1959, flying F-8 Crusaders, then F-14A Tomcats starting in 1980. VF-11 deployed the first JDAMs from F-14s in combat on 11 March 2002. The squadron transitioned to the F/A-18F Super Hornet in 2005 as VFA-11 and remains active at NAS Oceana with CVW-1.
