VAQ-141 was established on July 1, 1987, at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, as the twelfth operational EA-6B Prowler squadron. The Shadowhawks built their combat reputation early, becoming the first squadron in Carrier Air Wing 8 to deliver ordnance during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, firing AGM-88 HARM missiles on the opening night of the air campaign from USS Theodore Roosevelt. The squadron went on to support operations over Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq before transitioning to the EA-18G Growler in 2010. In 2012, VAQ-141 relocated to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, becoming the first forward-deployed Growler squadron in the Pacific and taking its place as the electronic attack backbone of CVW-5 aboard USS Ronald Reagan. That unbroken line from Desert Storm to the Indo-Pacific gives this shoulder patch a lineage that spans more than three decades of Navy electronic warfare history, and the Outlaw callsign ties the emblem directly to the crews who flew those missions.
