This VAQ-136 "Gauntlets" Las Vegas Det patch commemorates the squadron's detachment to the Nellis Air Force Base complex near Las Vegas, Nevada, for advanced electronic warfare training and exercises. The Las Vegas area hosts some of the most advanced air combat training in the world, including the massive Red Flag and Green Flag exercises that test the full spectrum of air warfare capabilities.
VAQ-136 operates the EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft, and detachments to the Nellis range complex allow Gauntlets crews to train in the most realistic threat environment available outside of actual combat. The Nevada Test and Training Range provides thousands of square miles of instrumented airspace with simulated integrated air defense systems that replicate near-peer threats. For Growler crews, these exercises are the ultimate test of their electronic attack skills — jamming and suppressing enemy radars while supporting large-force strike packages. The Las Vegas Det patch captures the excitement of operating in the world's premier air combat training environment.
