**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-55 Warhorses Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-55 Warhorses — the squadron born from World War II torpedo bombers who were aboard USS Franklin when she took two bombs off the coast of Japan, killing 724 men. The Warhorses survived and kept fighting for three more decades.
VA-55 was established as Torpedo Squadron VT-5 on February 15, 1943, and first saw combat from the deck of USS Yorktown in the Pacific. On March 19, 1945, while preparing to launch strikes against Kobe, Japan, USS Franklin was hit by two enemy bombs — resulting in catastrophic explosions that destroyed every VT-5 aircraft aboard and killed the squadron’s commanding officer, LCDR Allan C. Edmands. Redesignated VA-55 in 1948, the "Warhorses" went on to fly AD Skyraiders in the Korean War, deployed to the Western Pacific during the siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, and flew A-4F Skyhawks during Operations Freedom Train and Linebacker in Vietnam in 1972. The squadron also participated in Operation End Sweep, the clearing of mines from North Vietnamese waters. VA-55 was disestablished on December 12, 1975, then briefly reactivated from 1983 to 1991 flying A-6E Intruders from NAS Oceana.
