**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-22 Fighting Redcocks Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-22 Fighting Redcocks — from Korean War Bearcats to A-7 Corsairs that helped sink an Iranian frigate in the Persian Gulf. One of the few Navy attack squadrons with a combat lineage stretching across five decades and still flying today as VFA-22.
VA-22 traces its roots to Fighter Squadron VF-63, established at NAS Norfolk on July 28, 1948, flying the F8F Bearcat. The squadron completed three Korean War combat deployments before being redesignated VA-63 in March 1956, then VA-22 on July 1, 1959. Flying A-4 Skyhawks and later A-7E Corsair IIs, the Fighting Redcocks completed six Vietnam War combat deployments and participated in Operation Pocket Money, the mining of North Vietnamese harbors. In the late 1970s and 1980s, VA-22 deployed with CVW-15 aboard USS Kitty Hawk, winning back-to-back Battle E awards and becoming the co-West Coast launch squadron for FLIR-equipped A-7Es. In April 1988, while aboard USS Enterprise in the Persian Gulf, VA-22 aircraft participated in sinking the Iranian frigate Sahand during Operation Praying Mantis. The squadron was redesignated VFA-22 on May 4, 1990, transitioning to F/A-18 Hornets and later F/A-18F Super Hornets — and continues flying today from NAS Lemoore.
