Attack Squadron 216 (VA-216), the "Black Diamonds," was a U.S. Navy Reserve attack squadron that operated the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. The Black Diamonds' name evoked the hardest and most valuable of gems — a fitting symbol for a reserve squadron whose experienced aviators were among the most precious assets in the Navy's total force structure.
VA-216 maintained combat readiness as a reserve unit, with pilots who brought fleet experience from active-duty attack squadrons to the reserve force.
