Officially Licensed Navy VA-156 Iron Tigers Patch — Attack Squadron 156 Iron Tigers Embroidered Patch

The Iron Tigers — VA-156, striking with the strength and ferocity of iron and the cunning of the tiger, one of the Navy's A-4 Skyhawk attack squadrons.

Attack Squadron 156 (VA-156), the "Iron Tigers," was a U.S. Navy carrier-based attack squadron that operated the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. The Iron Tigers combined two powerful symbols in their name — iron for strength and durability, tiger for aggression and lethality — creating an identity that perfectly captured the squadron's mission of delivering devastating air attacks from the flight decks of aircraft carriers.

VA-156 operated the A-4 Skyhawk in the light attack role, deploying aboard carriers to provide the fleet with responsive conventional strike capability. The Skyhawk was the ideal weapon for the Iron Tigers' mission — small enough to operate from any carrier, tough enough to absorb battle damage and keep flying, and versatile enough to carry virtually any weapon in the Navy's air-to-ground inventory. VA-156's pilots trained in all aspects of carrier-based attack warfare, from dive bombing and rocket attacks to nuclear weapons delivery.

The Iron Tigers' legacy is part of the larger story of Navy attack aviation during the Cold War era, when dozens of A-4 squadrons formed the offensive striking power of the carrier fleet. Each squadron developed its own identity and culture, but all shared the common mission of projecting American power from the sea through precision air attack.

Perfect For: VA-156 Iron Tigers veterans, A-4 Skyhawk community members, Cold War-era naval aviators, carrier attack aviation historians, and Navy heritage squadron patch collectors.

VA-156 Iron Tigers — iron will, tiger instinct — delivering ordnance with the strength and fury of the attack aviator's creed.
