Officially Licensed US Navy VA-128 Golden Intruders Patch — Attack Squadron 128 A-6 Intruder Fleet Replacement Squadron Embroidered Patch
Golden Intruders — where A-6 Intruder crews were born.
Attack Squadron 128 (VA-128) "Golden Intruders" was the United States Navy's Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for the A-6 Intruder all-weather attack aircraft. Based at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, VA-128 was responsible for training every pilot and bombardier/navigator (B/N) who would fly the Intruder in fleet squadrons, making it the birthplace of the A-6 community.
VA-128's instructor cadre took freshly winged naval aviators and naval flight officers and transformed them into combat-ready A-6 Intruder crews. The training syllabus covered every aspect of Intruder operations: low-level navigation, night and all-weather attack, aerial refueling, carrier qualifications, and weapons delivery using the A-6's sophisticated DIANE (Digital Integrated Attack Navigation Equipment) system. The A-6 Intruder was the Navy's premier deep-strike platform, capable of delivering ordnance on target in any weather conditions, day or night — a capability that no other aircraft in the inventory could match. VA-128 produced the crews that took this remarkable aircraft to war in Vietnam, Libya, and Desert Storm. When the A-6 was retired in 1997, VA-128 closed its doors, ending an era.
This patch honors the FRS that built the A-6 Intruder community.
Perfect For: VA-128 Golden Intruders alumni, A-6 Intruder pilots and B/Ns, NAS Whidbey Island veterans, and attack aviation heritage collectors.
