USS Tarawa LHA-1 — Embroidered Patch
Eagle of the Sea
USS Tarawa (LHA-1) was the lead ship of the Tarawa-class amphibious assault ships — a new generation of "big deck" amphibs that combined helicopter operations with a well deck for landing craft. This patch represents the sailors and Marines who served aboard this revolutionary warship.
USS Tarawa (LHA-1) was commissioned in 1976 as the lead ship of a new class of general purpose amphibious assault ships. Named after the brutal Battle of Tarawa in World War II, the ship combined a full-length flight deck for helicopter operations with a well deck that could launch landing craft and amphibious vehicles. Tarawa deployed Marine Expeditionary Units worldwide and was decommissioned in 2009 after 33 years of service.
Perfect For:
USS Tarawa veterans, Tarawa-class LHA sailors, MEU Marines, and amphibious assault ship heritage collectors.
