USS San Antonio LPD-17 Patch — USS San Antonio (LPD-17) Amphibious Transport Dock Embroidered Patch
USS San Antonio (LPD-17) — the lead ship of the Navy's newest class of amphibious transport docks, designed to put Marines ashore anywhere in the world.
USS San Antonio (LPD-17) is the lead ship of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships, commissioned in 2006. The San Antonio class represents the most advanced amphibious warfare platform in the U.S. Navy's inventory, designed to embark, transport, and land Marines and their equipment using a combination of landing craft, amphibious assault vehicles, and helicopters/tiltrotor aircraft.
LPD-17 can carry up to 800 Marines along with their vehicles, equipment, and supplies, deploying them via a well deck that accommodates Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) hovercraft or conventional landing craft, and a flight deck that supports MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor operations, CH-53 heavy-lift helicopters, and other rotary-wing aircraft. The ship's advanced combat systems include the Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS), Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM), and a sophisticated command and control suite.
USS San Antonio was named to honor the city of San Antonio, Texas, and its strong military heritage, including the Alamo and the multiple military installations that call the city home. The ship has deployed extensively with Amphibious Ready Groups, carrying Marine Expeditionary Units to operational theaters around the world.
Perfect For: USS San Antonio (LPD-17) sailors and veterans, San Antonio-class ship enthusiasts, amphibious warfare community members, Navy-Marine Corps team supporters, and U.S. Navy ship patch collectors.
