USS Pennsylvania BB-38 Patch — United States Navy Battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) Embroidered Patch
USS Pennsylvania BB-38 — flagship that survived Pearl Harbor and fought across the Pacific.
USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) was a Pennsylvania-class battleship and the lead ship of her class, commissioned in 1916 as one of the most powerful warships in the United States Navy. On December 7, 1941, Pennsylvania was in drydock at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked — she was hit but survived, becoming one of the first battleships repaired and returned to service after the devastating surprise attack.
USS Pennsylvania went on to compile one of the most distinguished combat records of any American battleship in World War II. She provided devastating naval gunfire support during the invasions of Attu, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Saipan, Guam, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa — a campaign trail that stretched across the entire Pacific Theater. At the Battle of Surigao Strait in October 1944, Pennsylvania was part of the battle line that helped destroy the Japanese Southern Force in one of the last battleship-versus-battleship engagements in naval history. After surviving the war, BB-38 was used as a target ship during the 1946 Operation Crossroads atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, ending her service in the atomic age she helped usher in.
This patch honors BB-38's remarkable combat record.
Perfect For: USS Pennsylvania BB-38 descendants, Pearl Harbor survivors' families, Pacific War battleship historians, and World War II naval collectors.
