USS New York BB-34 Patch — United States Navy Battleship USS New York (BB-34) Embroidered Patch
USS New York BB-34 — from the dreadnought age to the atomic age.
USS New York (BB-34) was a New York-class battleship of the United States Navy, launched in 1912 and commissioned in 1914. She was among the first American battleships to carry 14-inch guns, giving her a significant firepower advantage over earlier dreadnoughts and establishing the standard for American battleship main battery caliber for years to come.
USS New York served in both World Wars, compiling one of the longest and most distinguished service records of any American battleship. During World War I, she served with the British Grand Fleet at Scapa Flow, helping maintain the Allied naval blockade of Germany. In World War II, New York provided critical naval gunfire support during the Allied invasions of North Africa (Operation Torch), Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, where her 14-inch guns devastated Japanese defensive positions and helped Marines advance ashore. After surviving two world wars and over three decades of service, USS New York met her final fate as a target ship during the 1946 Operation Crossroads atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, where she survived two nuclear detonations before being sunk as a target in 1948.
This patch honors BB-34's extraordinary service.
Perfect For: USS New York BB-34 descendants, battleship history enthusiasts, World War I and II naval collectors, and Operation Crossroads atomic test historians.
