USS Maryland BB-46 Patch — Colorado-Class Battleship Embroidered Patch
The Fighting Mary — survivor of Pearl Harbor and warrior of the Pacific.
USS Maryland (BB-46) was a Colorado-class battleship that earned a unique place in American naval history as one of the first ships to fight back during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Despite being moored on Battleship Row next to USS Oklahoma (which capsized and sank), Maryland's crew manned her anti-aircraft guns and began firing at the attacking Japanese aircraft within minutes of the first bombs falling.
USS Maryland survived Pearl Harbor with relatively light damage and was one of the first battleships repaired and returned to action. She went on to serve throughout the Pacific War, providing devastating naval gunfire support during the landings at Tarawa, Kwajalein, Saipan, Peleliu, Leyte Gulf, and Okinawa. At the Battle of Surigao Strait during Leyte Gulf — the last battleship-versus-battleship engagement in history — Maryland was among the American battle line that crossed the T on the Japanese Southern Force, annihilating the enemy formation. The "Fighting Mary" earned seven battle stars and a reputation as one of the toughest ships in the fleet.
This patch honors the resilient crew of BB-46 and their extraordinary service.
Perfect For: USS Maryland (BB-46) descendants, Pearl Harbor survivors' families, World War II Pacific campaign enthusiasts, and battleship warfare collectors.
