USS Iwo Jima LPH-2 — US Navy Embroidered Patch

Devil Dogs' Ship

USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) was the lead ship of the Iwo Jima-class amphibious assault ships — the first ships designed from the keel up as helicopter carriers for amphibious operations. This officially licensed patch represents the sailors and Marines who served aboard this pioneering warship.

USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) was commissioned in 1961 as the first purpose-built amphibious assault helicopter carrier in the Navy. The ship served as the platform for Marine helicopter assault operations, carrying Marine infantry and their helicopter transport to crisis zones worldwide. Iwo Jima participated in operations from the Dominican Republic crisis to the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and humanitarian missions. The ship served for over 32 years before decommissioning in 1993.

Perfect For:
USS Iwo Jima veterans, amphibious assault ship sailors, Marine helicopter assault community, and Navy warship heritage collectors.
