USS Guam (LPH-9) was commissioned in 1965 as an Iwo Jima-class amphibious assault helicopter carrier. The ship served throughout the Cold War, deploying Marine helicopter squadrons and embarked Marines to crisis zones in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Atlantic. Guam participated in major exercises and real-world operations before decommissioning in 1998.
