USS Bataan (LHD-5) is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship commissioned in 1997. The ship has deployed Marine Expeditionary Units to the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, and Horn of Africa, participating in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and humanitarian relief including Hurricane Katrina response. Bataan operates a full complement of Marine rotary wing, tiltrotor, and STOVL aircraft.
