Marine Fighter Squadron 112 (VMF-112), the "Wolf Pack," was one of the United States Marine Corps' distinguished fighter squadrons during World War II and the postwar era. The Wolf Pack flew some of the most iconic fighter aircraft in Marine Corps history, including the legendary F4U Corsair — the gull-winged fighter that became synonymous with Marine air power in the Pacific Theater. VMF-112 saw combat during some of the war's most intense aerial campaigns, engaging Japanese aircraft over the Solomon Islands and other Pacific battlegrounds.
The F4U Corsair gave VMF-112 a decisive advantage in air-to-air combat, with its powerful engine, heavy armament, and superior performance making it one of the most feared fighters in the Pacific. The Wolf Pack's pilots racked up impressive aerial victory tallies while also providing devastating close air support for Marine ground forces during island-hopping campaigns. In the postwar years, VMF-112 continued to serve, eventually transitioning to jet aircraft including the F-4 Phantom II before ultimately being deactivated. The squadron's Wolf Pack legacy remains one of the proudest chapters in Marine Corps fighter aviation history.
