USAF 20th SOS Green Hornets Squadron Patch — Special Operations Aviation at Its Finest
The Green Hornets earned their reputation in the jungles of Vietnam. They've been flying into the impossible ever since.
The 20th Special Operations Squadron (20th SOS) — the 'Green Hornets' — is one of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command's most legendary flying squadrons, with a combat heritage that begins in the jungles and rice paddies of Vietnam and continues through every special operations campaign since. During the Vietnam War, the Green Hornets flew UH-1 Huey helicopters into the most dangerous landing zones in Southeast Asia, conducting covert insertions and extractions of special forces teams, combat search and rescue of downed aircrews, and direct action missions in support of MACV-SOG and other special operations units. The squadron's Vietnam-era crews earned the Presidential Unit Citation and more than 50 Air Force Crosses and Silver Stars for missions that remain among the most harrowing in the history of military aviation. Today's Green Hornets carry that legacy forward, flying advanced special operations aircraft in support of U.S. Special Operations Command's global mission — infiltrating and exfiltrating special operators in denied environments, conducting personnel recovery, and supporting the full range of special operations activities. This squadron patch represents the Green Hornets and the tradition of courage that defines special operations aviation.
Perfect For: 20th SOS Green Hornets aircrew and support personnel, AFSOC special operations aviators, Vietnam-era special operations veterans, and anyone who has served in the special operations aviation community.
