USAF 20th SOS Green Hornets Leather Patches — The Special Operations Aviators Who Fly Into the Worst Places on Earth
The Green Hornets fly where no one else will go, at night, in weather, into places that don't exist on any official map.
The 20th Special Operations Squadron (20th SOS) — the 'Green Hornets' — is one of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command's most distinguished and decorated flying squadrons. The Green Hornets trace their lineage to the Vietnam War, where the original 20th Special Operations Squadron flew UH-1 Huey helicopters in support of covert operations, combat search and rescue, and special forces insertion and extraction missions throughout Southeast Asia. The Green Hornets earned their name and their reputation by flying into the most dangerous landing zones in Vietnam to extract downed aircrews and special operations teams, often under intense enemy fire. The squadron earned the Presidential Unit Citation and its crews earned more than 50 Air Force Crosses and Silver Stars during the Vietnam era. Today's Green Hornets continue the special operations aviation mission, flying advanced rotary-wing and tiltrotor aircraft in support of U.S. Special Operations Command's global mission. The squadron conducts infiltration, exfiltration, and resupply of special operations forces, personnel recovery, and other sensitive missions in denied and contested environments around the world. These leather patches carry the Green Hornets' legacy of courage and sacrifice in the most demanding flying environment in military aviation.
Perfect For: 20th SOS Green Hornets aircrew and support personnel past and present, AFSOC special operations aviators, Vietnam-era special operations veterans, and anyone who has served in the special operations aviation community.
