Attack Squadron 212 (VA-212) "Rampant Raiders" was a United States Navy attack squadron that projected power from aircraft carrier flight decks during the Cold War and Vietnam era. The "Rampant" modifier added an aggressive, unstoppable quality to the Raiders identity — these were not just raiders, they were rampant raiders, attacking with overwhelming fury.
VA-212's Rampant Raiders flew attack missions from carriers operating in the Western Pacific, Mediterranean, and other forward-deployed theaters. The squadron's pilots delivered ordnance against enemy targets in conditions ranging from clear skies to instrument weather, maintaining the carrier air wing's offensive tempo around the clock. Attack squadron duty was among the most demanding in naval aviation — flying long missions from a pitching carrier deck, navigating to heavily defended targets, delivering weapons with precision, and then finding and landing on the carrier again, often at night or in poor weather. The Rampant Raiders executed this mission with the aggressive spirit their name demanded.
