This VT-27 "Boomers" shoulder patch is the official shoulder-worn version of Training Squadron 27's insignia, designed for wear on flight suits and uniforms. VT-27 is a primary flight training squadron based at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, operating the T-6B Texan II.
VT-27 is part of Training Air Wing Four (TRAWING 4), training student naval aviators in the primary phase of flight training. The Boomers take students who have completed ground school and initial flight screening and teach them the fundamentals of military flying — takeoffs and landings, aerobatics, formation flying, instruments, and cross-country navigation in the T-6B Texan II turboprop trainer. The shoulder patch format places the Boomers' identity prominently on the uniform sleeve, visible during daily operations and identifying the wearer as part of one of the Navy's primary training squadrons. For student naval aviators, wearing the VT-27 shoulder patch represents the beginning of their aviation career.
