Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 115 (VAW-115), the "Liberty Bells," is a U.S. Navy airborne early warning squadron that has operated the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye. The Liberty Bells provide the carrier strike group with airborne early warning, command and control, and battle management capabilities that are essential to fleet air defense and strike coordination. The E-2C Hawkeye's distinctive rotating radar dome makes it one of the most recognizable aircraft in naval aviation.
The E-2C Hawkeye is the Navy's all-weather, carrier-based tactical airborne early warning aircraft, capable of detecting and tracking air and surface contacts at ranges of hundreds of miles. VAW-115's Naval Flight Officers (NFOs) serve as airborne controllers, directing fighter intercepts, coordinating strike packages, and providing the carrier strike group commander with a comprehensive tactical picture of the battlespace. The Liberty Bells are the quarterback of carrier air operations — without their eyes, the carrier air wing fights blind.
