**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-86 Sidewinders Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-86 Sidewinders — four combat deployments to Southeast Asia, more than any other East Coast attack squadron. Their A-7s even starred in The Final Countdown aboard USS Nimitz.
VA-86, the "Sidewinders," traces its lineage to Reserve Fighter Squadron VF-921, called to active duty from NAS St. Louis in February 1951 for the Korean War. Redesignated VA-86 in 1955, the squadron flew F7U Cutlasses, A-4 Skyhawks, and A-7 Corsair IIs from carriers including USS Independence, USS America, and USS Nimitz. The Sidewinders conducted their first combat missions in July 1965 against targets in South Vietnam, and went on to complete four combat deployments to Southeast Asia — including Operations Linebacker and Linebacker II in 1972. In 1979, VA-86 appeared in the movie The Final Countdown filmed aboard USS Nimitz. The squadron earned the Wade McClusky Award as the Navy's most outstanding attack squadron in 1985 before redesignation as VFA-86 in 1987.
