Officially Licensed US Navy VA-26 Skylaunchers Patch — Attack Squadron 26 Skylaunchers Embroidered Patch

The Skylaunchers — VA-26, launching from the carrier deck and into the sky with the Grumman F9F Cougar, one of the Navy's early jet attack squadrons.

Attack Squadron 26 (VA-26), the "Skylaunchers," was a U.S. Navy carrier-based squadron that operated the Grumman F9F Cougar among other aircraft during its service history. The Skylaunchers' name captured the essence of carrier aviation — the explosive catapult launch that hurled aircraft from the flight deck into the sky, an experience unique to naval aviation and one of the most thrilling and violent moments in flying.

The Grumman F9F Cougar was a swept-wing derivative of the F9F Panther, one of the first generation of Navy jet fighters. The Cougar served in both fighter and attack roles, with later variants modified for the light attack mission. VA-26's operation of the F9F placed the Skylaunchers in the transitional era of naval aviation, when the Navy was moving from straight-wing, first-generation jets to more capable swept-wing designs that could keep pace with the rapidly advancing technology of the jet age.

VA-26's legacy represents the early days of jet-powered carrier attack aviation, when the Navy was developing the tactics, techniques, and procedures that would define carrier-based strike warfare for decades to come. The Skylaunchers were pioneers in an era of rapid technological change, adapting to new aircraft and new missions as the Navy's role evolved.

Perfect For: VA-26 Skylaunchers veterans, F9F Cougar and Panther community members, early jet-era naval aviators, carrier aviation historians, and Navy heritage squadron patch collectors.
