**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-185 Nighthawks Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-185 Nighthawks — five years of service, one war, and every major award in the Navy's trophy case. The Nighthawks packed a career's worth of combat into a single deployment.
VA-185, the "Nighthawks," was established on December 1, 1986, at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington — the first new West Coast A-6 squadron in 13 years. Forward-deployed to NAS Atsugi, Japan, in September 1987, the squadron flew A-6E Intruders from USS Midway. The Nighthawks supported Operation Earnest Will in the Persian Gulf, operated in the Sea of Japan during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and maintained station off the Philippines during the 1989 attempted coup. On October 2, 1990, VA-185 deployed to the Persian Gulf for Desert Shield and Desert Storm, leading the first air strikes from naval elements operating in the Persian Gulf. The squadron flew 457 combat missions, delivering 720,000 pounds of ordnance. In 1989, VA-185 earned the Wade McClusky Award, the Battle Efficiency "E," the CNO Safety Award, and the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy. The Nighthawks were disestablished on August 30, 1991.
