**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-12 Flying Ubangies Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-12 Flying Ubangies — the squadron that flew F4U Corsairs near Saipan, sat at sea for 254 straight days during the Iran hostage crisis, and supported peacekeepers in Beirut. Over 30 major overseas deployments and they never once changed their attitude.
VA-12 was established as Bomber-Fighter Squadron VBF-4 on May 12, 1945, redesignated VF-2A in 1946, VF-12 in 1948, and finally Attack Squadron 12 (VA-12) on August 1, 1955. Based at NAS Cecil Field, Florida, the "Flying Ubangies" made over 30 major overseas deployments flying A-4 Skyhawks and later A-7E Corsair IIs. In 1955, the squadron supported the evacuation of the Tachen Islands under PRC bombardment. In 1960, VA-12 deployed aboard USS Shangri-La to counter Cuban infiltration into Central America. The squadron flew two Vietnam combat tours in 1966 and 1970–71 before transitioning to the A-7 Corsair II. During the 1973 Yom Kippur War and the 1974 Cyprus crisis, VA-12 was on station in the Mediterranean. In 1980, the squadron deployed aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower for 254 continuous days at sea during the Iran hostage crisis. VA-12 supported the multinational peacekeeping force in Lebanon in 1983 before being disestablished on October 1, 1986.
