The Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) designation is the most prestigious tactical qualification in the Navy's rotary-wing community. SWTI-qualified aviators and aircrew are the resident experts in weapons employment, tactics, and mission planning within their helicopter squadrons — the go-to person when the CO needs to know the best way to employ the MH-60R or MH-60S Seahawk in any tactical scenario. Earning the SWTI designation requires completing an intensive advanced training course that covers anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, combat search and rescue, special warfare support, and every other mission set the Seahawk community executes. SWTIs return to their fleet squadrons as the tactical backbone of the unit, writing the tactics manuals, planning the complex missions, and training the junior aircrew. These PVC patches represent the SWTI qualification in the Seahawk community — a mark of tactical expertise that is recognized and respected across naval aviation.
